Area police boss confirmed that the four disguised themselves as clients when all the bank s staff and clients were evacuated and made away safely in a glaring mistake.

It remains unclear why everyone was not screened first before being released.  Nyanza Regional Commissioner Magu Mutindika told the press that the robbers must have changed clothes before leaving undetected.

The police boss had earlier complained that the operation to stop the heist was derailed after the thugs lobbed teargas on the officers responding to quell the crime.

Heavy sound of gunfire rented the air as police officers on Tuesday, November, 23, staged a fierce battle with suspected robbers totalling four who had raided an Equity Bank branch located at Angawa Street in Kisumu County.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the four suspected robbers entered the bank as customers only to unleash teargas in a twinkle of an eye forcing clients to flee for safety. Members of the public alerted the police who swung into action leading to the heavy shootout.

The bank area was sealed off a s a scene of crime with detectives combing through pieces of information and materials that will guide them in handling the matter that will be headed to court. The police asked members of the public to report any statements concerning the insecurity in that region. They also warned criminals of any wrong doing

The police also promised to neutralize all criminal activities in the region and conduct thorough operation in all the hideouts to flash them out. Members of public also promised to help the police in the operation.
