Nandi Hills' Alfred Keter lost his seat to UDA candidate Benard Kibor Kitur. In what appeared to be a battle between Vice President William Ruto and independent candidates in the North Rift, Keter won 18,037 votes to Kitur's 23,503.
The total number of votes cast was 41,979. Keter became independent by being denied the UDA party's ticket to the primary.
UDA ticketKeter had been declared the winner but lost the election to Kitur due to his unrelenting criticism of Vice President William Ruto, the President's standard bearer for Kenya Kwanza.
The DP is seen as the overlord of Kalenjin and the Nandi Hills legislature has been branded a rebel to sink the presidential ambitions of the head of the UDA.
Ruto, separating him from the DP's self-interest rift. while seeking a third term in the House of Representatives in August.
Mr Keter was first elected to represent the Cosmopolitan constituency in 2013 and retained the seat in 2017 on a jubilee card./IBRAHIM HARIZON
