Today, Mandera South MP Mheshimiwa Kore and I had the privilege of hosting the British High Commissioner, Neil Wigan, and his team, marking the third visit by a UK High Commissioner to Mandera, specifically Elwak. Joined by partners from the Borderlands Programme, we discussed the Kenya-Somalia Borderland Project, funded by the UK, focusing on community collaboration and security enhancement.

The team is assessing flood impact, discussing immediate relief, and exploring long-term climate solutions. They announced cash transfers to 400 households for the next 3 months. Grateful for their support, we were joined by a team from Elwak, Somalia, expressing appreciation for Mandera County's community support.

After the town hall meeting, the British High Commissioner and I jointly flagged off, medical supplies procured by the county government with logistics support from Kenya Defence Forces, along with the distribution of food and wash items donated by the Kenya Red Cross Society to over 500 flood-affected households in Elwak. The exercise took place in Gedalo IDP camp, emphasizing collective efforts to alleviate the impact of natural disasters on vulnerable communities. The aid package included maize flour, green gram, cooking oil, and wash items, showcasing a proactive approach to providing essential sustenance and support.

This targeted and coordinated effort underscores the commitment to swiftly address the immediate needs of those affected by the floods, fostering resilience and stability in challenging times. We appreciate National government, UK high commissioner, Kenya Red Cross and other NGOs for their unwavering response and support. Together, we demonstrate a unified commitment to community well-being.
