Small weapons include flashlights, handguns, rifles, submachine guns, mortars, grenades, and light missiles. Anti-aircraft, anti-tank, and anti-tank missile launchers are examples of light weaponry, as are heavy machine guns and mounted grenade launchers. Ammunition and small arms and light weapons (SALW) are inextricably linked; without the former, the latter is meaningless. Cartridges are the most common format for SALW ammo, though it comes in other forms too. For use by lone infantrymen, small arms are usually kinetic projectile weapons.
